Drifter for PocketPC 1.0.2

Drifter for PocketPC Publisher's Description

Drifter is a simple utility program designed to keep your PDA system clock accurate without the need to synchronize with an external time server.

Note: you must disable ActiveSync's "Synchronize mobile device clock upon connecting" option to use Drifter.

Drifter is compatible with PocketPC 2000 and PocketPC 2002 devices and includes ARM, MIPS, and SH3 versions. Drifter is not compatible with WindowsCE 2.x devices.

Update Details:

1.0.2-M: Fixed a bug that prevented scheduled startup on some systems. Changed installer to support installation to storage cards and to put Drifter in "Programs" instead of the "Start" menu. Uninstall the previous version before installing the update.

Details:

The system clocks on most computer systems don't keep good time. In fact, it is not unusual for the clock to 'drift' several seconds each day. Over the course of weeks or months this error can add up resulting in a clock that is several minutes fast or slow. On a PDA - a device designed to keep track of your schedule and remind you of important events - an inaccurate clock is a bad thing.

Servers and desktop PCs solve this problem by periodically connecting to a time server on the local network and synchronizing their clock. But for a PDA, relying on time server synchronization may not be practical.

Drifter solves that problem by determining the amount of error in the system clock. Drifter then automatically adjusts the system clock at the exact intervals required to compensate for the error.

ActiveSync can make your PocketPC's clock match your PC but if you don't sync frequently or your PC is not routinely synchronized with a time server, Drifter can keep your PocketPC's clock much more accurate.
